Depression Counselling

Depression Counselling in Nelson, BC

Rediscover Connection, Energy, and Meaning Depression can feel heavy — like a fog that settles over your thoughts, your body, and your relationships. It may show up as low energy, hopelessness, numbness, loss of interest, irritability, or a sense of disconnection from life and from yourself. If you’re experiencing depression, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken. Depression is often a signal that something important inside you needs attention, care, and support. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself, make sense of your experience, and find a path toward relief, clarity, and renewed purpose. I offer depression counselling in Nelson, BC and online across British Columbia.

Understanding Depression

Depression affects people in different ways. You might notice:

  • loss of motivation or pleasure
  • persistent sadness or emptiness
  • changes in sleep or appetite
  • difficulty concentrating
  • irritability or numbness
  • feelings of worthlessness or shame
  • withdrawing from others
  • emotional overwhelm
  • a sense of “going through the motions”

Sometimes depression arises from an identifiable event or relationship.
Other times, it feels like it comes out of nowhere.

Either way… your experience makes sense.
Your system has found ways to cope with overwhelming emotion, and those strategies may now feel stuck or painful.
Therapy helps you understand why you feel this way — and what might help you feel different.

How Therapy Helps

Depression counselling is a supportive, collaborative process.
It isn’t about “fixing” you — it’s about helping you see what’s happening inside with more clarity and compassion.

Together, we explore:

  • the emotional patterns shaping your experience
  • the protective strategies that helped you survive
  • the deeper needs and feelings beneath numbness or sadness
  • what your body is holding onto
  • how your past may still be living in the present

Over time, people often find:

  • more emotional clarity
  • greater ease in their nervous system
  • more energy and motivation
  • a sense of inner permission to feel and express
  • renewed connection with what matters

My Approach to Working with Depression

My work draws primarily from:

  • EFIT (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy)
  • Coherence Therapy
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • mindfulness and somatic awareness

These approaches help us get curious about the emotional learnings and protective parts that became necessary earlier in life. Depression often shows up when those parts feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted.

Coherence Therapy helps:

  • uncover emotional truths held out of awareness
  • transform patterns that keep depression in place
  • update emotional memory using reconsolidation

This is often where deep change happens — not through effort, but through the brain naturally revising old emotional learning.

IFS helps:

  • meet inner parts with compassion
  • understand why certain parts hold sadness or protect you through numbness
  • access a grounded inner “Self” that can guide healing

Together, these approaches help you move toward greater emotional freedom — not by pushing away symptoms, but by tending to what they’re trying to express.

What Sessions Feel Like

Therapy with me is:

  • warm
  • gentle
  • relational
  • collaborative

There is no pressure to be anywhere other than where you are.

You can expect:

  • space to speak honestly
  • curiosity rather than judgment
  • a pace that respects your nervous system
  • attention to emotion, body, and memory
  • guidance when you feel stuck
  • deep listening

Sometimes the most healing thing is simply having a safe place to be seen and understood.
